trauma-informed practice for museums & galleries

Supporting museums to deliver with skill and confidence.

full day or half day training

Introduces arts and museum professionals to trauma-informed practice and how it applies in a museum context.

Can be delivered as a general introduction or tailored specfically to your collection or the communities you work with or are seeking to engage.

The training is designed to build awareness, confidence and practical skills for those working directly with the public as well as staff who may be working with
objects whose histories may be linked to traumatic events or stories.

Why work with me?

While many trauma-informed training sessions out there focus primarily on theory and concepts, this workshop also includes real world practical application — demonstrating how trauma-informed practice operates within the day-to-day operational and organisational realities of museums, galleries and heritage sites.

Insight that comes from real, behind-the-scenes experience inside a large public art museum.

What does the training cover?

We’ll explore:

  • Understanding Trauma – what trauma is, the different forms it can take and its impact on individuals and communities.
  • What It Means to Be Trauma-Informed – the core principles and how they translate into practice.
  • Trauma-Informed Museum Practice – applying these principles to learning, curatorial, interpretation and visitor-facing work.
  • Responding Skillfully to Distress – recognising and managing distress in the gallery space as well as workshops, tours and talks
  • Staff Wellbeing – sustaining ourselves and our colleagues through boundary-setting, reflective practice and effective team communication.
